What do you do for a Living?

I’m retired now but work 2 nights a week driving refrigerated artics for a food distribution company around the UK to fund my expensive hobby

Do you have a Fire Service Background?

My first job was as an apprentice railway draughtsman but I got bored (no not paid enough) so asked at the local fire station about joining the retained and got talked into joining wholetime instead! I was an operational firefighter with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service for over 32 years at Scunthorpe my home town station

I joined just after the 1974 Flixborough Disaster (I can remember exactly where I was when the explosion occurred) and was on the first ‘make up’ to the Selby Train Crash in February 2000

How long have you been a member of FSPG?

Since the late 1980’s

How long have you been on the EC?

Around 2 years now

Are there any positions/special roles/jobs that you do for the FSPG?

Nothing assigned currently, although I’ve had ‘input’ recently into driving licence classifications, vehicle roadworthiness checks and vehicle insurance categories.  I also had a big hand in the sourcing of branch banners.

Why did you become a member of the EC?

I felt the group was going a bit stale   I’d done a lot of time with the Northern and North Lincolnshire branch  and felt I should offer my services to the membership as a whole   you can’t attempt change if you’ve left an organisation  so decided to try to help/change from within
