What do you do for a Living?
I work for 1st Defense Fire & Rescue as Operations Manager looking after day to day running servicing customers fire extinguishers, film and Tv and maintenance of our own vehicles and equipment.
Do you have a Fire Service Background?
I have worked for Surrey Fire & Rescue in their workshop in Reigate serving and maintaining there vehicles right down to LPP’s and Holmatro power packs. I also grew up on a retained fire station where my Dad served for 22 years.
How long have you been a member of FSPG?
I have been a member of the FSPG since I was about 13 and have been active withing the group for 30 years.
How long have you been on the EC?
I am now on my second stint on sitting on the EC of about 3 years and previously for 10 years.
Are there any positions/special roles/jobs that you do for the FSPG?
My role within the EC is mainly keeping any eye on vehicle legislation and look after the Toolbox section in the new group publication
Why did you become a member of the EC?
I joined the EC the first time to bring some fresh blood on to the EC, the second time I was press ganged to come back to help get the group going in the right direction again.
What vehicles /collections do you own?
My vehicle fleet consist of 2 ERFs LYM630P which is currently undergoing major restoration I also in a way own VAN525M which also belongs to the wife and is awaiting restoration both are ex LFB I also own a pair of ex LFB Dodges D804FYM with Locomotor body which I’ve rallied since I purchased 10 years ago and still carrying out small bits and bobs of restoration on. The second Dodge is D830FYM with Saxon body work which was rescued by another FSPG member after spending 15 years in a Dealers yard in Essex it is the only survivor of the small batch of 5 D-reg bodied by Saxon left and is need of some major cab restoration work.
What’s on your shopping list?
Somewhere local to me to store my fleet of trucks.
What is your favourite era for re-enacting/ to portray in arena events?
I’m more into my 70’s to 90’s arena displays but do take part in anything
What is your favourite thing to do at a rally?
BBQ and Beers and catching up with old friends on the rally field
What you get out of being a member of FSPG?
I mainly enjoyment of being part of the group is the great network of friends I’ve made over the years and helping out wherever I can.
What would you say to someone looking to join the FSPG?
Great group to meet like minded individuals with a vast knowledge of all things fire service
Is there anything else you want to say?
Not all fire engines are RED
